Mom to Mom: "Social Distancing" Style
/I snuggled up in my favorite “prayer chair” with my “prayer shawl” blanket that a dear Mom to Mom sister had crocheted for me. Then I gasped in delight as I saw the sweet faces appear on my laptop screen, one by one. These were the precious women in my Mom to Mom small group who I had been missing during these days of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is Mom to Mom, “social distancing” style!
.
We are grateful for Skype and Zoom and FaceTime, which allow us to connect virtually with one another when we cannot connect physically. And, boy, did we enjoy our time of connection on that Mom to Mom teleconference. We heard an update from a mom who would be giving birth to baby #3 in a few days . . . the sighs of a mom who is miraculously caring for her active pre-schooler while muddling through the exhausting first trimester of her pregnancy with twins . . . the exasperated words of moms who are trying to manage their homeschooling schedules. These are dedicated, hardworking moms who are doing a great job of pouring life into their children. They inspire me every day. I relished the privilege I had to pray for those moms while we were gathered on that teleconference.
.
This week, our small group is looking forward to having another teleconference gathering to discuss the next lesson in our Mom to Mom curriculum. Like many of you, our Mom to Mom year came to an abrupt halt as this pandemic caused us to isolate in our homes. But Mom to Mom Ministries is providing registered groups with free access to video lectures they did not have the ability to complete this year. I’m so glad we will have the opportunity to continue our discussions of these important “mom” topics.
.
I want to encourage all of you to use whatever tools you have (phone, text, videoconference, etc.) to stay in touch with your mom friends during these challenging times. You may be stuck at home with your small children—or with grown children who have come back to your home during these uncertain times. Therefore, we need to encourage one another. So, let me encourage you even now by providing words of scripture that I shared with those moms in my small group last week:
Don’t give up, sisters!
